South African law requires employers whose staff are exposed to noise above 85 dB(A) over an 8-hour shift to run a hearing conservation programme — including baseline audiograms for new hires and annual follow-up audiograms thereafter (SANS 10083 / OHS Act). Failing to do so exposes the company to Compensation Fund claims, Department of Employment and Labour audits, and civil liability.
